Research

Bastian studied physics at the Univesity of Hamburg. He started working in the junior-research-group of Christian Kränkel as a diploma student at development and characterization of new solid state laser materials. Currently he is a PhD student in the groups of Jochen Küpper and Christian Kränkel and works on setting up a continuous wave thin-disk laser based resonator with a high finesse in the range up to 1 MW. Constant high field strength will enable diffraction experiments of continuously aligned molecules at arbitrary repetition rates due to spatial hole burning in the center of the resonator. To realize this setup, he builds low loss cavities and compares inter alia things the material specific losses of different gain materials, like Yb:YAG or Yb:LuO.
