Research
In his research project, Jannik will explore methods to control beams of aerosolised bio-/nanoparticles for Single Particle Imaging (SPI) experiments. SPI relies on a focused stream of isolated, ideally identical sample molecules in the gas phase to reconstruct their 3D structure from Free-Electron Laser (FEL) X-ray diffraction data. To meet these demands, inherent particle properties and their interactions with external fields (optical, electrical, …) will be exploited. This will reveal approaches to selectively guide sample species, for example in respect to charge or conformational states, into the FEL interaction region.
