Zhipeng's research focuses on controlled large cold molecules for Free-Electron Laser experiments. He prepares cold and controlled samples of large molecules, for instance, small peptides, short DNA strands, or proteins. Then exploits novel manipulation techniques. These cold molecules then be transported, sorted and aligned for further investigations, such as x-ray or electron diffraction imaging, matter-wave interferometry, or ultrafast charge migration and energy transfer reactions.
