New Master Student in CMI - Lars Dammann

04 October, 2016

CMI group welcomed Lars Dammann today as well, new Master Student.

Lars is studying Physics at Universität Hamburg and will work on his Master Thesis. His main aim is to study the properties of the rotational quantum states of carbonyl sulfide, a small triatomic linear molecule.  In a first project, the individual quantum states will be separated from a seeded molecular beam, adiabatically transferred to the detection chamber, and characterized in terms of their spatial probability density distributions. In a second project, a coherent superposition of rotational quantum states will be accomplished by the interaction of a single state with a strong, non-resonant laser field. The resulting matter wave will be dispersed and studied by its interaction with the strong inhomogeneous electric field of the electrostatic deflector.
