Dr. Yuan-Pin Chang, former postdoctoral scientist in the CFEL Controlled Molecule Imaging group, accepted an Assistant Professorship position at the National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan. He starts his independent research group in the Department of Chemistry focusing on research in physical and atmospheric chemistry.

Europa Woche Hamburg – COMOTION – an example of the prestigeous european financial support for research

With the highly endowed grants of the European Research Council, top scientists from the field of fundamental research and pioneering research are awarded. Hamburg scientists are successful with their applications and so far have received a total of 50 ERC grants and funds of almost 85 million euros. One of them, Jochen Küpper, has received 2 million euros from the ERC for his research project COMOTION.

Every year, the Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Natuurkunde (NTvN), the Dutch Journal of Physics, by the Nederlandse Natuurkundige Vereniging (Netherlands' Physical Society) has a contest for PhD students and recently graduated postdocs to write an article on their dissertation that should be understandable for a broad public – the Dutch people interested in physics.

New publication on the characterization of gas-flow from aerosol injectors in the Journal of Applied Physics

31 March 2017

Our paper entitled "Characterizing gas flow from aerosol particle injectors" has been published in the Journal of Applied Physics. We show the detection of helium gas emerging from one of our aerosol injectors down to absolute number densities of 4×1016 cm-3, essentially measuring the local pressure inside a vacuum chamber with a spatial resolution of ~2 µm.
