Research

My research is focused on internal rearrangement processes of small molecules in the gas phase, such as cis- trans-isomerization and the dynamics of laser alignment and mixed field orientation. Quantum-state-selected molecules are fixed in space with moderately strong laser fields and the degree of orientation is probed via Coulomb explosion in combination with velocity-map imaging. We will gain dynamical information on how molecules are changing their structure upon laser excitation by mapping the photoelectrons on a position sensitive detector.
